FIVE FAVORITE WES CRAVEN FILMS

I was extremely saddened to hear the news of the passing of Wes Craven. As a huge horror movie fan, I've loved his films since I was a kid (I still remember being obsessed with SCREAM and seeing all of them in the theaters). The best way to remember such a talented person is to celebrate their art, so I'm sharing some of my favorite Wes Craven movies that you must see. And if you're a bit of a pansy... it's okay, I won't tell... here's your warning to watch them with the lights on.

Every time the summer rolls around, I completely neglect my Netflix in an attempt to soak up as much warmth as I can before I hibernate. But with these crazy storms lately, I've found myself hiding from the rain (side note: did I move to Seattle and not realize it?!) almost every day. MOVIE SUGGESTION: THE BABADOOK

Whether it's zombies, ghosts, or serial killers, I am obsessed with scary movies. And although I may watch some of them with the lights on, I'm always on the hunt for a good horror film. Lately I feel those that have been hitting the big screens are majorly lacking, and have left me wishing I could get a refund than leaving me scared. That's why usually I look for independent films to get my horror fill (and really, for every other genre of movies too). 

I had high hopes for the movie The Babadook, and I was not disappointed. The movie surrounds a scary children's book, and the effects it has on a mother and son. It's eerie, frightening, and so so good. And you can purchase it on Amazon, here! Just don't watch it alone.

MOVIE ANTICIPATION

For me, there is nothing better than going to see a good movie. No matter how much I enjoy hanging out in my pajamas on my couch with a glass of wine, nothing compares to the experience of seeing a flick in the theatre. That's why I'm sharing five movies I can not wait to see!

FAVORITO FRIDAY: STELLA AND BOW BURN BOOK

With the 10 year celebration of one of the fetchest movies ever, it was a funny coincidence that I came across this Mean Girls inspired jewelry line by Stella and Bow. It must be the universe telling me that I need to watch the movie for the 689,540th time, or that I really need a hair clip proclaiming that my mane is filled with secrets like the daughter of the founder of Toaster Strudel. Either way, I'm down for both.

NETFLIX INSTANT GEMS

There's nothing better than sitting on your couch watching Netflix all day, and nothing worse than spending half of it trying to commit to a movie. And because I don't have the patience to wait for a DVD in the mail (first world pains), it's important to call out a gem on Instant Queue when you see one. Check out some of my favorites below!

Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010)

One of my favorite documentaries that will leave you laughing, inspired, confused, and extremely amused. Like Banksy's art, it's definitely worth a look.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)

Recently having to watch this Western for class, I fell in love with everything about it. Not to mention John Wayne is the epitome of a bad ass.

Clueless (1995)

You don't really need an explanation, do you?

Let the Right One in (2008)

I'm going to sound extremely obnoxious saying this but- skip the remake. Everything good about the Swedish original was lost in translation when it was re-vamped in 2010. I'll wear my glasses to read subtitles on this one any day.

Valley of the Dolls (1967)

After reading the book by Jacqueline Susann (which I promise you'll enjoy), it became one of my go-to, rainy day movies. Between the clothes, music, and Sharon Tate, it's one of those films that just never gets old.

Drive (2011)

Ryan Gosling, fast cars, and a really awesome storyline. Who isn't up for that?

The Walking Dead (2010)

You'll thank me once the zombie apocalypse hits and you're prepared (advice: befriend a Southern). 

Mad Men (2007)

I could watch this show on mute, it's that aesthetically pleasing, but luckily the character dialogue is amazing. I live for Betty Draper.

The Sweetest Thing (2002)

The perfect girls night in movie. Just add wine.

Melancholia (2011)

I never cared much for Kristen Dunst until I saw her acting chops in this movie (and Virgin Suicides). She was snubbed an Oscar nomination on this one!
