STILL THIRSTY?

After reading Jess's post, I had a craving to try out Santa Margherita's nail polish, along with a few glasses of wine, to prepare for the Primp & Pour event. I spent the better part of my night mixing different coats of Pinot Grigio, Prosecco, and Sparkling Rose, creating some gorgeous shades! My favorite has to be the color on my thumbs, which I started with Prosecco, added a light coat of Pinot Grigio, and then the Sparkling Rose. I also adore them alone, and you can see how great the pigment of the Pinot Grigio is on my middle and pinky fingers.

I like to call these types of colors my "Oh Crap" polishes because I am constantly forgetting to do my nails when I go out. You know the dance every girl does when trying to get pants on with wet nails? It's my choreography. This polish goes on quick, dries fast, and the light shimmer colors make for an easy clean up! The Sparkling Rose now has a permanent place in my purse, not only for spontaneous nail sessions, but adding a coat to any color adds a touch of glam.

Lollapalooza, Spring Awakening, Warped Tour, Blues Festival... it's that time of the year to embrace the heat for some sweet tunes. Chicago summer festivals have us all tempted to rock our birthday suit, but before you risk indecent exposure, check out our five essential must-haves that'll keep you more comfortable while covering your derriere.

1. Breathable Clothing
With summer rain predictions as unpredictable as finding a cab on a Saturday night downtown, swimwear is ideal clothing to wear (those mist machines will feel like god's personal gift by afternoon). Tankinis paired with loose shorts are a perfect combination, or a dress cover-up with an airy feel. Either way, you want to wear a material that is comfortable yet water absorbent. Because ladies, although we don't sweat (we glow, thank you very much), shirtless concertgoers will, conveniently while they're bumping into you.

2. Comfortable Shoes

Save the wedges and sandals for when you don't have to risk muddy toes. Combat boots are best to fight the crowd and the dirt, while giving an edge to plain shorts. Jewelry is just another item you'll have to worry about, so spice up your look with essential accessories. If you aren't into boots, jelly flats will keep your feet covered while still handling water and dirt.

3. Cheap Sunglasses

After still being in mourning over the new pair of Chanel sunglasses that were stolen from me at a concert, I vowed to never wear a good pair to a festival again. This is why I love Target sunglasses. They're cute, keep my eyes protected, and you won't feel regret if they break.

4. Crossbody Bags

Festivals are a prime spot for people to pick pocket, so keep your belongings safe by carrying a simple crossbody bag. Keep it small to fit your phone, ID, cash, and camera. Big purses just get in the way and backpacks make it too easy for the person behind you to take your belongings.

5. Sunblock

If you take away anything from this post, it should be the importance of protection. If skin cancer doesn't scare you enough (remember, it only takes one time), this article will make you lather it on. Sunscreen should always be a part of your daily routine, and choosing a natural option will keep breakouts away.

BRAID NIGHT

Wednesday night, we attended a braid extravaganza event at Maxine Salon held by Birchbox and Kérastase. If you're unfamiliar with each, Birchbox is basically like having a mini birthday in the mail every month, without getting older (who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?). For $10 a month, they'll send you beauty samples for various products, so you can try before you commit! Kérastase can be explained in four words... BEST. HAIRCARE. PRODUCTS. EVER. That's all you need to know. Now, go try their serum and thank us later. 

While we spent half of the night trying to decide what gorgeous braid to pick and the other half admiring the work that Maxine's staff created, we found time to sip champagne and enjoy some Flirty Cupcakes. Jess chose a headband braid that worked perfect with her long waves, while Jill's stylist created a unique look based on Khaleesi from Game of Thrones (yes, he was that awesome).

Jess wore an H&M dress, DV Dolce Vita heels, and a GUESS by Marciano necklace. Jill wore a French Connection dress with heels by Boutique 9.
