FAVORITO FRIDAY: THE PERFECT OPAQUE TIGHTS

It finally feels like fall, so it's time to bust out one of my favoring accessories - tights! I love wearing them for a dressed up night out or even for a casual outfit that is just thrown on for a day of errands. These pair of tights from Nordstrom are exactly what you need. They have the perfect opaqueness, three different colors, and you can get two pairs for $24! Your search for the perfect pair is over.

What is your favorite pair of tights?

BLOWOUTS WITH DRYBAR

For my date night with my fiancé in New York City, I decided to make it a carefree day that included a trip to drybar for a wash and blowout. And I gotta admit, I am hooked. My hair is thick and long, and always takes hours to dry my tresses myself - something I rather have someone else do! Whether it's for a special evening or just because (like my trip to the Houston salon yesterday), you'll never catch me saying no to a trip to drybar.

Once you sit down, you're given a menu to choose your desired hairstyle - pick from different types of blowouts (The Manhattan, Dirty Martini, The Cosmo, and more!) or even an updo or braid. Head over to get the most relaxing wash a girl can dream of and less than 45 minutes later, you'll have a blowout that will turn heads. I opted for The Mai Tai for some loose, beachy waves.

Count me in for a monthly membership!

Have you tried drybar?

FAVORITO FRIDAY: LOUIS MOINET 'MEMORIS'

Watches were once just another piece of jewelry to me - something I threw on in the morning like any other bangle or pair of earrings. But with time, my fiancé's knowledge and admiration for the craftsmanship of timepieces, rather than just watches, has rubbed off on me. I always thought a coveted watch could just be picked up at any department store, but that is definitely not all there is to it. You may know a few household names here and there, but my eyes have been opened to what a timepiece really is.

It's simply, but actually not so simply, a piece of art.

No matter how little or extensive your watch knowledge is - everyone knows what a chronograph is. Yes, Louis Moinet invented that. Now, 200 years later, the Swiss watch brand Louis Moinet has a lot to celebrate - the bicentenary of the iconic invention, the atelier's tenth anniversary, and the launch of the new Memoris.

When I was told about this absolutely breathtaking timepiece, it was kismet! Sure, it has my favorite fashionable aspects (rose gold and black leather!), but my appreciation for it goes well beyond that. The complexity of this handmade piece is almost unworldly. (If you don't believe me, watch the video below, and prepare to be amazed.) Of course, my fiancé already knew about the Memoris before I did, but I truly don't think there's anything about watches he doesn't know already.

Enough of me drooling over this timepiece - I hope you find the Memoris as special as it is for myself, and especially for my fiancé.

BOWS & SEQUINS CLOTHING LINE

Bloggers are such an inspiration to so many when it comes to getting dressed in the morning, including myself. What I love the most about bloggers is that it's great to see everyday clothes worn on different body shapes - especially since what works for a 6 foot model won't work for my 5' 2" height. So when a blogger collaborates on a fashion line, you know they have a wide variety of girls in mind.

That's why I was so excited to see Jessica of Bows & Sequins, a Chicago blogger (wahoo!) come out with her own line! Jessica is a doll with a killer blog, and her style falls nothing short of that. So it's no wonder I'm loving her clothing line. Bows, metallics, and tweed? Yes, please.

Plaid Skirt - $49.31

Cocoon Jacket - $99.18

Metallic Skirt - $49.31

You can check out pictures of Jessica wearing the line here, and shop it here.

SWITCHING UP MY SKINCARE REGIME

I have my go-to products when it comes to my daily skincare regime, but sometimes, a girl just wants to switch it up. Change is a good thing, I swear! If you follow me on Snapchat (jessografia), you'll know how deep my obsession for a good skin mask is - see here. Keep reading for my new skincare must-haves!

Clay Masks ($18.00) - Fig + Yarrow

Cleanser: One thing I will never change is my love for Kiehl's. I use the Clearly Corrective™ Purifying Foaming Cleanser every morning and night, but switch to the adorable, tiny version of the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash when I'm traveling.

Moisturizer: I always went a little fancy with this morning and evening must-have, but I stuck with the classic Ultra Facial Cream and I couldn't be happier. I mean, it lasts 24 hours.

Ultra Facial Cream ($27.50+) - Kiehl's

Mask: This is where my regime has drastically changed. I am ob-sessesed with masks! Whether it's of the clay or sheet variety - count me in!

These clay masques from Fig + Yarrow are excellent and don't cost a fortune. I use Black for my forehead and nose (hello, oily t-zone), and Gold for my cheeks and chin (hello, dry skin) about one to two times a week.

Clay Mask {Black} ($18.00) - Fig + Yarrow

Clay Mask {Gold} ($18.00) - Fig + Yarrow

If you're lazy about skincare like I am (finally got better about it!), sheet masks are just what you need. I adore the Sephora Collection Face Masks, but those can get pricey as I use them about three times a week. For a less expensive option, grab these Tony Moly 'I'm Real' ones while you're there!

FAVORITO FRIDAY: 103.5 KISS FM'S ANGI TAYLOR

This week I shared information on The Green Tie Ball, happening this Saturday, and I am so excited to share this fun interview I got to partake in with my girl Heidy from BECLOTHESMINDED! Heidiy and I got to chat with one of the emcees of the evening, Angi Taylor of Fred and Angi on 103.5 KISS FM. Angi is the ultimate girl boss, owning the radio waves while also killing it in the style and hair department (kinda have major hair envy with this one). The best part? She is super sweet and entertaining! Check out who her ultimate radio guest would be, her most memorable career experience, and her favorite spots around the city.

We're so excited for you [and Fred] to emcee this year's Green Tie Ball! Why is this event important to you?
Chicago is, to me, the most beautiful city in America. Any time people visit for the first time, you’ll always hear “it’s so clean here!” I’m a supporter of the beautification of our city, and we Chicagoans have so much city pride, so Gateway Green’s initiatives are something I’m proud to get behind.

You are one of our favorite voices on the air. At what age did you know this is what you wanted to do?
Thank you for that! You’re one of my favorite blogs *air kisses*! I honestly fell backwards into radio through a college internship. I knew entertainment was my place from a very young age, but radio was never a thought until I saw that I could still be ME and entertain. What started as just college credit turned into my passion on the first day.

Angi with Adam Lambert

How did you get your start?
Working in a nightclub as a bartender. I met the local radio star who offered me that internship during my first semester of college. After 6 months as an intern I got my first small market job in St.Cloud, MN and never went back.

One piece of advice for those trying to break into the business.
Network, network, network. Go to radio conventions, send emails to those you respect for advice, and if you’re in college- get an internship!

What has been your most memorable career experience?
Becoming the youngest female morning host at my first major-market radio station (KDWB-Minneapolis, at 22 yrs. old), was a big point of pride for me! Also getting this job in Chicago… I grew up in Minneapolis, so to make it here was all I ever wanted. I never had NY or LA aspirations, it was always “when I get to Chicago, I’m there to stay because then I've made it."

If you could have anyone on the show, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you ask?
This is such a loaded question. This might not be the answer you were looking for, but I lost my grandfather last year to Alzheimers, and I’d probably have him on to ask him everything I never had the chance to ask while his health was declining. He lived an amazing life and by the time I wanted to dig deep, he couldn’t remember things. I guess that’s an answer for ME, but other wise I’d have on Notorious B.I.G. and ask him “Who Shot Ya?”

Besides this year's "Studio 54" theme the night will also incorporate a number of charitable casino gaming tables from Roulette, Blackjack to Craps. What table are you planning on hitting up?
I love Blackjack and will hit a table for sure, but I should just throw my money at them and walk away because I suck. My husband is a craps guy, and he’s good… so there’s the balance.

One the cover of Paws Chicago, Winter 2015

The Green Tie Ball is always known for its great performers and DJ's - this year is no exception. What song(s) do you want to hear played Saturday night?
I want some Studio 54-era disco for sure! I also love anything current I can dance to. And a girl always likes to dance to songs we know the lyrics to… then we’re in our own music video on the dance floor!

When you're not working, what are you listening to?
I love top40, everything we play at KISS-FM, but I’m a hard-core hip-hop fan. Love soul and R&B too.

We love your hair! Where do you get your hair done in Chicago?
I have a secret weapon! My hair fairy is Jes Mateja and she happens to be the girlfriend of our night jock Rufio, so I’m spoiled in that she’ll make house calls. She is so funky and creative, that going from Kardashian hair to Miley Cyrus hair was a fun experience… it could have been tragic with the wrong stylist!

At the 2014 Jingle Ball

Last but not least... What is your regimen for getting ready for attending these types of events?
Favorite store to shop: Cusp, Intermix, any boutique in Wicker Park, and tons online: ASOS, Nasty Gal, Shopbop, GILT...
Makeup or spa appointment: Love Kasha at Aniko for waxing/facials, LOVE Leslie at the Liposuction & Cosmetic surgery Institute in the Gold Coast for a needle prick here and there, and of course Jes for my hair!
Recovery spot (home, brunch spot, or favorite farmer's market): There’s no place like home and a Lou’s pizza (g-free!) for recovery, but I also love to bum around at flea markets on the weekends- Randolph Street Market gets half my money. I’m a novice “Flea Market Flipper!"

Yeah I know, I kinda love her too.

Happy Friday!

x Jill

INSTASNAPS FROM SEPTEMBER

We kicked off our favorite season with some birthday celebrations, wedding planning, and sports games (yes, you read that right!). It's been a really quick September and it seems like the days just flew by. It's crazy we already have to start planning our Halloween costumes!

Here is a look at where we've been, via Instagram.

ALL ABOUT THESE BOOTS

Houston's weather dipped down to a perfect 68 degrees and I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day! It got me in such a mood for fall, I just had to shop for the season's necessities - including boots. I picked up a pair of Steve Madden 'Troopa' combat boots (yes, the ones I've borrowed from Jill) from Nordstrom

And obviously one pair isn't enough! It's time to build up my boot collection all over again, so check out my favorites below.

Top to bottom, left to right: 1. Jaegar Booties ($160.00) - Dolce Vita, 2. Steve Madden 'Troopa' Boot ($79.90 - On Sale!) - Nordstrom, 3. Kandice ($150.00) - Sam Edelman, 4. The Caleb Boot ($238.00) - Madewell, 5. Shirley OTK ($498.00) - FRYE, 6. Ubel ($175.00) - Kelsie Dagger Brooklyn, 7. Eisner ($220.00) - Jeffrey Campbell, 8. Women's Original Short Refined Back Strap Rain Boots ($185.00) - Hunter, 9. Belle by Sigerson Morrison Cynna Embellished Booties ($395.00) - Shopbop.

GREEN TIE BALL XXIV

I love the 70s, I love giving back to Chicago, and I love a good time. So when I come across all these mixed into one sparkly fun night, I've gotta share it.

The Green Tie Ball is a gala that happens every year, taking place this year on October 10th at Venue One. Dozens of Chicago's top restaurants will be present, along with premium open bars, charitable gaming from River's Casino, and amazing DJs. The best part about the night is that it's all to benefit and raise funds for Chicago Gateway Green's Expressway Partnership Programs.

Founded in 1999, CGG's Expressway Partnership Programs is dedicated to making Chicago's expressways more green by transforming our highways into beautiful landscapes. Joined with the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois, and Chicago's corporate community, their promotion of sustainability goes beyond the traditional "adopt-a-highway" programs and improves the environment throughout Chicago.

The best news in all of this? There is still time to purchase your ticket and join the over 3,000 people who will be contributing to this special initiative (and partying, duh!). And you know with this year's Studio 54 theme it's going to be an amazing time. You'll want to snag your spots quickly, here.

What will you be wearing?

WEDDING INSPIRATION: CLUTCHES

One of the questions we had when we first started planing our (separate) weddings was "where do we put all of our crap on the day of?!". You know - lipstick, concealer, mints, phone (we get to Instagram one picture, right?), and everything else we would be completely naked without. Sure, you never see a bride walk down the aisle with a bag, but that doesn't mean you won't need one for the evening of the big day. We've both been on the hunt for the perfect one - just not sure if that one is classic, cute, chic, or a little bit edgy.

FAVORITO FRIDAY: NARS HIGHLIGHTING BLUSH

Every girl needs a darn good highlighter in their makeup routine. No ifs, ands, or buts about it! I've tried  numerous ones from drugstore steals to high end must-haves, but there's no comparing to NARS Highlighting Blush in Albatross. It gives a luminous glow that can be paired with your favorite blush or with nothing at all for that I woke up like this look. I never leave my house without a swipe on each check of this magical highlighter.

COMMODITY GOODS

Perfume was never a part of my morning routine until I read about having a scent for my wedding. (Yes, that's actually a thing.) I realized I needed one for every day, so I've spent the past couple months researching different scents and ingredients and have smelled countless samples, but to no avail. (My fiancé can vouch for the many trips to the mall.) That is, until I finally stumbled upon Commodity Goods at Sephora

Commodity Goods is a premium perfume and cologne brand with the coolest approach to fragrance (more on that below). Their minimal packaging and scents - Whiskey, Paper, Moss, Rain, and more - attracted me to them and their strong and delicate aromas kept me wanting more. Loving each and every scent is an understatement! I purchased their 10ml size of Magnolia (a Sephora exclusive) and rushed home to learn more.

They have the first of its kind - a try-at-home fragrance fitting kit - complete with samples of their 10 current perfumes and colognes. It also comes with paper strips to use before you commit one to your skin. (The only con of the kit is that they don't give you enough strips, but there's an easy fix - index cards!) You have three options with your fitting kit - Uno includes one 10ml scent, Trio includes three 10ml scents (the one I picked!), and 100 includes a full size 100ml bottle.

But it doesn't stop there! You don't have to simply just choose Wool or Tea, but there's my favorite part - the Cocktails. Mix Whiskey and Mimosa, and you'll make an Old Fashioned. Mix Rain and Moss and you'll create Morning Fog. Mix Book and Tea and you'll feel like a Sunday. My trick to sample all these wonderful combinations is to use those index cards from earlier and make sure to write which Cocktail you're creating to avoid any confusion!

Commodity Goods also gives you discounts for additional 10ml or 100ml fragrances you purchase, so I have both Morning Fog and Woolymosa headed my way. I can't wait to get a little creative with a new scent every day!

Get 20% off your next order here.
